Literacy Week 2009

Hot off the heels of our fantastic Multi-Cultural Week last year we are getting ready for our Literacy Week which will run throughout the week of Monday 15th to Friday 19th of June. We have a full timetable planned, packed with exciting events and activites linked in with literacy. The week will culminate in a parade from the school on Saturday down to the Welfare Field to start the Fete with a bang!

Year 5/6 Literacy Week Banners

Author Rob Lewis will be holding a workshop with both Nursery & Reception and Year 1/2.
The Crowman Storyteller will be making puppets with Year 5/6. Godly Plays will be visiting Year 1/2.
Poppet Puppet Theatre will be working with Nursery & Reception.

Year 3/4/5 & Year 5/6 (10:30-11:30) will be taking part in the Troll Bridge Challenge.

Year 5/6 will be holding Storytelling sessions for Nursery & Reception (2-2:30pm) and Year 1/2 (2:30-3pm).

The week will officially be opened on Monday by children's author and illustrator Rob Lewis. He will be running writing and art workshops with all classes throughout the day.

On Tuesday, David Pitt, the 'Crowman', who is an extraordinary storyteller, will be running storytelling, puppet and mask making workshops with Year 5/6 in the morning and Year 3/4/5 in the afternoon. Godly Plays will be working with Year 1/2 during the morning sessions and will be practically exploring Old Testament stories with Vicar Babara Wood.

Wednesday heralds the arrival of Poppet Puppet Theatre to entertain Nursery & Reception for the whole morning. In the afternoon they will be running hands on practical activities for Busy Bess, our Parent & Toddler group. Also on Wednesday afternoon we are planning to host our outdoor 'street party' based on the 'Mad Hatters Tea Party'. The school will be providing the cakes and party food. We will also be holding the whole school fairy tale treasure hunt.

On Thursday Year 5/6 will be entertaining the school with their storytelling in specially designed storytelling camps around our fabulous school grounds.

Friday will be another busy day with 'The Great Troll Bridge Challenge' running from 10:30-11:30am and our Grand Closing Assembly beginning at 2:30pm. All classes will be presenting a small item and parents are welcome to join us (limited to 2 adults per family).

Our week officially end on Saturday 20th June with our parade and school fete. Every class will have a theme for the parade; Nursery & Reception will be dressed as Elves and Fairies, Year 1/2 will be Alice in Wonderland, Year 3/4/5 will be Peter Pan and Year 5/6 will be Fairytale Royal families. We are asking children to be in school for 11:00am to parade through the village at 11:30am to the beat of the Samba band, arriving at the Welfare Field at roughly 12 noon.
